    Marti from Spain
Marti — SpainSoccer team captain · 2nd consecutive season · International student leader

Marti Solanellas Vilella has made his mark both on and off the field. As a dedicated member of the soccer team and a rising leader set to captain his team for the second consecutive season, his journey reflects the warmth of the Carroll community. When he arrived as a freshman, upperclassmen reached out to make him feel included — especially among international players adjusting to a new culture. One standout moment was his participation in the soccer team's coach hiring process. Selected as one of two players on the hiring panel, he helped choose a coach who would benefit the team and gained a unique behind-the-scenes look at an interview process. His advice: be curious, ask questions, get out of your dorm, and engage with everyone around you.

"Every new day is a good day to be a pioneer." — Marti

One of her proudest moments was completing her Capstone project, a senior thesis on language and linguistic manipulation as a means of control, presented at a faculty conference. She is now working toward publishing her paper in an undergraduate magazine. What Victoria loves most about Carroll is that the small campus means faculty and staff know students by name — and that support is constant and genuine.

    Daniela from Peru
Daniela — PeruApplied Physics · Dual degree with UW Milwaukee

Daniela majored in Applied Physics before continuing on to UW Milwaukee for her Engineering degree through Carroll's dual degree program. From Peru — a country celebrated for its rich multicultural heritage — she values the diversity and vibrancy that both her home and Carroll offer. Initially drawn to a larger city university, Daniela soon realized that Carroll's smaller community meant genuine connections and a warm, family-like atmosphere where staff and peers readily extend support. Choosing Carroll was an easy decision once she discovered the dual degree program — the perfect fit for her ambitious goals. Her favorite study spots: the sunlit second floor of Jaharis during the day, and the 24/7 Tech Center in Hilger LL for late-night sessions.

What English proficiency scores does Carroll accept?
Carroll accepts TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test, iTEP, and ISE. Students from countries where English is the primary language of instruction may qualify for a waiver. See full requirements at carrollu.edu/english-proficiency.
Do you accept transfer credits from international institutions?
Yes. Carroll accepts transfer credits from accredited international institutions. You must provide a course-by-course credential evaluation from a NACES-member service such as WES or ECE. IB, A-Level, AP, and some language credits may also transfer — see the Alternative Credit Guide.
Can I complete my degree in three years?
Yes, through the Carroll3 program. Students in select majors can graduate in three years, saving 25% on tuition. International students who demonstrate strong English proficiency may receive up to 16 elective credits to help accelerate degree completion. Ask your admissions contact whether your intended major qualifies.
    Is Carroll University accredited?
Yes. Carroll is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Individual programs hold additional specialized accreditations — the Nursing program is accredited by ACEN, for example.
    Scholarships & Costs
What scholarships are available to international students?
Every admitted international student receives a minimum of $27,000 per year, renewable for all four years with satisfactory academic standing. Additional competitive scholarships are available on top of this. No separate scholarship application required — you are considered automatically upon admission.

    Do you offer full-ride scholarships?
Carroll does not currently offer full-ride scholarships, but a competitive full-tuition scholarship is available. See current offerings and deadlines at carrollu.edu/scholarships.
    Visas & Immigration
How does Carroll support my visa application?
After you deposit, Carroll's Designated School Official (DSO) issues your I-20 — the document required to apply for your F-1 student visa. Our international admissions team can answer questions about the process and periodically hosts visa information webinars. Contact us on WhatsApp for current support.
What happens if my visa is denied after I deposit?
Contact Carroll's international admissions office immediately. Carroll works with students on a case-by-case basis regarding deposits and next steps following a visa denial. Reach out directly so we can advise you on your specific situation.
What is STEM OPT and do I qualify?
Optional Practical Training (OPT) allows F-1 graduates to work in the US in their field for 12 months after graduation. Graduates of a STEM-designated program can apply for a 24-month extension — up to 3 years total US work authorization. Carroll offers six STEM-designated programs. All approvals are at the discretion of USCIS — Carroll supports your application but cannot guarantee approval.
What is CPT and when can I use it?
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) allows F-1 students to work off-campus as part of their academic program — typically through internships integral to your degree. CPT requires DSO approval and is generally available after your first academic year. It must be directly related to your major.
    Campus Life
    Can I live off-campus as a first-year student?
All full-time undergraduates are required to live on campus until they reach senior standing (92 credits) or are 23 years of age or older at the start of the academic year. Students wishing to live off-campus before then must submit an Off-Campus Application and receive an approved exemption.
Can I work while studying at Carroll?
Yes. F-1 students can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week during the semester and up to 29 hours per week during official breaks. Off-campus work in your first academic year is not permitted under federal regulations. After year one, CPT and OPT become available with DSO approval.
    Do I need health insurance?
Yes. Carroll requires all international students to enroll in the university's International Student Health Insurance plan. Details on coverage and costs are provided after admission. Contact Carroll's international office for current plan information.
    What is the student-to-faculty ratio?
Carroll's overall student-to-faculty ratio is 21:1. More relevant for international students: most programs operate in small cohort sizes with direct, consistent faculty access — professors know your name and you have real access to them throughout your degree, not just teaching assistants.
Can I change my major after enrolling?
Yes. If you change to or from a STEM-designated program, this may affect your OPT eligibility timeline. Notify Carroll's DSO of any major changes so your immigration records stay accurate.
