    Application Process

    To ensure a smooth credit transfer process, please follow these steps: 

    Apply to Carroll University:
    1. Unofficial transcripts from your high school or secondary school (translated into English if necessary). 
    2. Unofficial copy of your L3IFDHES diploma from NCC Education. 
    3. A grade of C or higher is required for credits to transfer.

    Alternative Credit Pathways

    Carroll University offers multiple pathways for international students to earn credit toward their degree. Below are some of the ways students can transfer or earn credits.

    International Transfer Credits

    Students with post-secondary coursework outside the U.S. must provide a credential evaluation from a NACES member. Several partners, including ECE, WES, IIE, and SpanTran, offer discounted evaluations through our website.

    To apply credits toward specific Carroll University courses, students must submit syllabi for each course. Credits without a syllabus will transfer as elective credits.

    Cambridge International A & AS-Levels

    Carroll University awards credit for Cambridge A Levels passed with a grade of C or higher. Students may receive one unit (4 semester hours) per subject.

    Retroactive Credit for Modern Languages

    International students who exceed the University’s English proficiency benchmark and complete ENG170 with a grade of B or higher can receive 16 elective credits.

    International Baccalaureate (IB) Program

    Carroll University recognizes the IB Diploma, granting 16 credits to diploma holders. Additional credit may be awarded for higher-level exams with scores of 4 or higher.

    Credits for 13th Year of Schooling (Norway & Italy)

    Students from countries where the 13th year of schooling is equivalent to U.S. undergraduate coursework may earn elective credits. Norwegian students can transfer certain general education courses upon credential evaluation.

    Advanced Placement (AP) Credit

    Carroll University awards credit for AP exam scores of 3 or higher. A maximum of 48 AP credits can count toward a bachelor’s degree.

    Marti Solanellas Vilella has made his mark both on and off the field at Carroll University. As a dedicated member of the soccer team and a rising leader—set to captain his team for the second consecutive season—Marti’s journey reflects the warmth and support of the Carroll community. When he first arrived as a freshman, upperclassmen reached out to make him feel included, especially among the international players adjusting to a new culture. This spirit of camaraderie carries over into every activity on campus, from spirited sports events to engaging social gatherings organized by the international department. One standout moment in Marti’s Carroll experience was his participation in the soccer team’s coach hiring process. Selected as one of the two players on the hiring panel, he not only helped choose a coach who would benefit the team, but also gained a unique behind-the-scenes look at an interview process—an experience that’s sure to serve him well in the future.

    Ansuya from Nepal

    Ansuya Shrestha is a sophomore majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics at Carroll University. Hailing from Nepal, she is a dynamic presence on campus through her active involvement in leadership and cultural organizations. As the Vice President of the Global Pioneer Society (GPS), she plays a vital role in fostering cross-cultural understanding. In addition, her work as a Fellow at the Office of Community Culture (OCC) and as an International Orientation Mentor supports both Nepalese and other international students as they adjust to life at Carroll.

    One of the most memorable experiences in Ansuya’s Carroll journey was organizing the Cultural Karaoke Night: Sing Your Heart Out event. Working closely with the Office of Community Culture, she helped create an inclusive space where students from diverse backgrounds could come together, share songs from their home countries, and celebrate their unique cultures. Her involvement in homecoming celebrations and alumni engagement at the Betty Lou Tikalsky International House has further honed her leadership and communication skills. Looking ahead, Ansuya is excited about participating in Carroll’s Got Talent, where she will perform a cultural dance to showcase her heritage.

    Did you know?

    If you’ve taken Cambridge International A Levels or AS Levels, you may be able to transfer those credits to Carroll! Ansuya was able to have 18 credits from her A Levels transferred, essentially giving her more than a semester's worth of credit. Carroll awards 4 semester hours for each A Level and 2 credits for each AS Level completed with a grade of C or higher. Just make sure to submit your A Level transcript along with the course syllabi for evaluation.

    Victoria from Spain

    Victoria Asuar Aznárez is a senior majoring in English and Writing with minors in Film and TV, Professional Writing, and Creative Writing at Carroll University. She serves as an Orientation Mentor for first-year students and works as a Spanish Conversation Tutor. Through these roles, Victoria has connected with many students while building valuable professional skills.

    Victoria is also active with Habitat for Humanity, a student organization that builds houses for those in need. Every Spring Break, the group travels to a different location for a week of volunteering in the mornings and exploring in the afternoons. Last year, they visited Amarillo, Texas, and this year she is in charge of organizing Habitat’s trip to Berkeley County, South Carolina.

    One of her proudest moments at Carroll was completing her Capstone project—a senior thesis presented at a conference. Her research on language and linguistic manipulation as a means of control was showcased to the English faculty and other guests, and she is now working toward getting her paper published in an undergraduate magazine.

    What Victoria loves most about Carroll is the sense of community created by the small campus and personalized learning environment. Faculty and staff know students by name and offer constant support, allowing her to form strong connections with American students, faculty members, and peers from around the world.

    Her advice for fellow international students is to be open-minded and step out of their comfort zones. Get involved on campus, attend events, ask questions, and use all the resources available.

    Many students choose to travel from Chicago to Waukesha by taking the airport shuttle to Goerke's Corners Park & Ride. From there, Carroll University provides shuttle service to campus. Students will be prompted to request a shuttle through their Application portal.

    • Do you accept transfer credits from international institutions?

      Yes, Carroll University accepts transfer credits from accredited international institutions. You must provide a course-by-course credential evaluation from a NACES-member service like WES or ECE​.

    • Can I complete my degree in three years?

      Yes! The Carroll3 program allows students in select majors to graduate in three years, saving 25% on tuition. International students who excel in English proficiency can receive 16 elective credits, helping them complete their degree faster​.

    • Can I live off-Campus as a freshman?

      Residency Requirement

      Carroll University adheres to a junior residency requirement, which means all full-time undergraduate students are required to live in on-campus housing until they reach senior standing (92 credits) or are 23 years of age or older by the beginning of the academic year.

      Housing Exemption

      Each year, full-time undergraduate students who wish to commute or live off-campus must submit an Off-Campus Application to request an approved exemption from the residency requirement. If the Off-Campus Application request is denied, students will be subject to the residency requirement and will need to complete the On-Campus Housing Application.

    • What is the student-to-faculty ratio?

      Carroll has a small class size, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 21:1.

    • Do I need health insurance?

      Yes! Carroll requires all international students to sign up for our International Student Health Insurance.

    • Can I work while studying at Carroll?

      Yes! F-1 students can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week during the semester and 29 hours per week during breaks. Off-campus work requires approval, such as CPT (internships) or OPT (employment authorization requested usually post-graduation), and students will not have the ability for off-campus work the first academic year of their program per federal regulations.
